Important news comes from Finland, where the newly formed government has announced it is committed to ending the current monopoly system for gambling “no later than 2026” by implementing a licensing model instead.
In the meantime, Sweden’s government has announced an inquiry into the rules and regulations surrounding party political lotteries. On the other hand, Malta has approved a gaming law that protects country-based offshore operators from foreign liability. The controversial Bill 55 was signed into law which orders courts to refuse to recognize or enforce any foreign judgments against Malta-licensed operators active in the European market.
Across the pond, the USA got another state with legalized online gambling. By signing Senate Bill 948 into law by the state’s governor, Rhode Island has become the seventh state to legalize iGaming.
Regarding sports betting, Vermont has become the latest US state to legalize this gambling activity. Introduced earlier this year, House Bill 127 was signed into law by the state’s governor, making sports betting in Vermont legal.
North Carolina follows Vermont's footsteps as it edges closer to legalizing sports betting. House Bill 347 was introduced in March is finally passed its second reading in the Senate. The bill would allow bets placed on sports and horse racing in North Carolina if passed into law.
